Hey,

I'm a 25 year old male, moving to Denver from the Seattle area. I'm working right now as a bank teller at Wells Fargo, but plan to transfer over and apply as a Banker, which should put my income at about 33,000. Not much, but something. I'm hoping to study at Denver Seminary in Littleton (Santa Fe area, I think). I've heard parking is horrible in Denver, and that the public transportation is awesome.

Anyway, I need suggestions/tips/ideas from you all on cost of living, the rent scene, neighborhood suggestions, etc. Anything and everything helps. Ideally, I'd like to live in a little 1 bedroom or studio apartment (not rent in a house, although I suppose I'd be open to that as a second option).

I've noticed that everyone keeps saying average prices are about 700 to 800 a month for rent, but rent.com and other sights list several decent looking ones at like 450-600. Are those ones so run down and aweful they aren't worth living in, full of high crime, and not near bus lines.... or am I missing something? Any light here?

Thanks guys and gals for your helpfull pointers! I'm planning on moving down in either November or January.

I hear it actually snows down there? We don't really get snow up here.... just lots and lots of rain and clouds and pretty much constant drizzle.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Joe

Well, you learn something new every day! I had never heard of Denver Seminary before, but I googled it and there it was! Anyway, I think you should probably expect to pay $600-700 for rent. You might find something for a little less, but that will be a pleasant surprise.

You are going to be in for a shock if you're asking if it snows here! Denver is legendary for its snow, though it isn't as bad as the media usually makes it out to be. The winter is usually bright and sunny, with a few snowy days thrown in. The snow usually melts in 2-3 days, unless there is a huge dump (10 in or more). I would check out the weather threads on this forum, and also the weather websites.

Parking is variable across the metro area. Your employer may provide parking; the seminary may provide parking. It's something to look into. PUblic transportation is good to excellent, depending on where you are and where you want to go.
