Well, my fiance and I would like our ceremony to be at his childhood church, St Thomas More which I believe is in the Highlands ranch area? We need to find a place for our reception that is somewhat nearby... Littleton, Denver, Highlands Ranch, Parker? We don't have a lot of money to spend, our entire wedding budget is 10k, which would probably put our entire reception, dj, cake, alcohol etc at 5-6k? Does anyone have any ideas or referrals? Here's the catch..its a winter wedding, next New Years Eve to be exact! Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated, I am starting to go crazy with all of this!!

I'm sorry no one's had a great idea for you yet. A small budget on NYE is tricky at best. How many people were you looking to host? Does it need to be a sit-down event? Daytime, Nighttime?

Maybe you could rent a mansion overlooking the mountains and bring in your own caterer? With so many houses on the market, I would think you might find someone willing to make a quick $2K or so on a house they can't sell...is that even legal???

Sorry, wish I had more to offer. Remember the truly important part is what happens in the 50+ years after the "big" day...

How conventional does it need to be? We got married in a park just north of Red Rocks and the "reception" was in the party "room" of the Morrison Inn just to the south. We brought our own music (on CD) and cake. The whole bill was under $1,500 and our guests ate & drank well. If you add stuff like fancy tables and a DJ, you aren't really saving money.

I mention this because there are lots of restaurants and similar places, formal to funky, who would love to host your party. If your experience was like ours, the fewer weddings the place has, the more you will be treated like royalty. Our reception was the talk of our friends for years.

I would also love to bring my reception to The Fort in Morrisson, and there is a wedding party center right next door, rt. 8 at 285. Other unconventional places that might not otherwise be open that night (but do parties) include the Western History Musuem, the Molly Brown House, or the absolutely incredible Japanese Restaurant, Domo, near downtown on Osage (www.domorestaurant.com), which won "Best japanese restaurant" for 10 years straight. I'm just thinking of outstanding places that might appreciate the business, otherwise, most places look for a way to make big bucks that night.

The last wedding/reception I went to was this last spring up on Lookout Mountain. Robin's Nest I believe it was.

On new year's eve 2008, the best you will do is a party room or room in a large restaurant. The first question you need to answer is how many people?

Public rec centers are unlikely to be open except during the early part of the day but you might get a good deal at a private golf course party room that time of year. I assume you don't want to use the church because of the drinking restrictions?
