My husband and I are moving to Denver next Friday (yay!!) from Kansas City. The past three years, we've gone to Country Club Plaza on Thanksgiving and had dinner at a really cool Irish pub and then watched the lighting of the Christmas lights. Is there anything like that or other Thanksgiving events in Denver? Or does anyone know of restaurants that have a Thanksgiving dinner or are at least open that day? Thanks!

That's kind of weird, lighting Christmas trees on Thanksgiving? Pretty much all of my friends and family are tired of the commercialism being crammed down our throats, I mean, it starts immediately after Thanksgiving.

Don't get me wrong, the entire month of December in Denver is really cool, especially downtown and the lights. They have the Parade of Lights and Chriskindl (sp.?) a cool, German Christmas market. Those are my two fav events. The city building is totally decked out too.

So I'd guess I'd say don't expect any spectacular event on Thanksgiving. Mostly, it's eating and football (yuck). A lot of us have our traditions with family and me and my husband have our own traditions of walking in the morning, playing board games, watching movies and of course eating!

Last year I decided to h*ll w/traditional turkey and made tamales and green chili. That was oh so good!!!!!!!!!

This year, my husband said, nope, you are not cooking this year! So we are going out to eat somewhere. A lot of restaurants (incl. chains and mom and pops) offer a T-day dinner. I know the Fort (upscale) and places like Simms Landing do T-day dinners. Check opentable.com for restaurants and maybe sites like Yelp! for ideas.

p.s. - Welcome to Denver!

personally, i think that right at or after thanksgiving is THE time to put up lights. and it isn't a lighting of a tree, it's the lighting of the millions of christmas lights on all the buildings in the plaza. it's really pretty.

i think i will go ahead & cook a small turkey... then we'll have leftovers! yummy

oh yeah, I agree about decorating and such right after Thanksgiving, if anything to get it over with. I just thought that lighting trees on T-day seemed strange.

We are still going out to eat, a friend just told me that the Greenbriar restaurant has a really good dinner.

Have fun with your turkey!

Yeah Candy, I'm with you!! I personally love the prices of turkeys and, there is nothing like the smell of them cooking!!YUMMMM!!
If someone so desires to put up decorations for Christmas then.....well,,.....at least they are up for a MONTH, not a day or two! ( They should be for that enormous amount of work..plus..family is around to help!!). Sip hot chocolate and enjoy I say!!!
Both of my son's will be home (one from Hawaii, in the Navy, and, one from Rhode Island, a professor!...It's their favorite time!! Who am I to deny them?!!!!)
There are several Hotels that have TG dinners, they are awesome!!
Embassy Suites,...realllllly nice!!!!
Have fun!!
