Hey everyone...
Will try not to beat a dead horse here as a lot of these questions have been asked, but i'm moving to Denver from Long Island, NY (have some friends and family out here and it's cheaper and easier to live) and had a bunch of questions....I'm 24, only a year out of college, so take that into account also...
a) I'm looking tomorrow at a house share with a few guys my age on 23rd and Humboldt...Is this a safe/good area? the price is right for me as is the living situation, i realize it's not glitzy but can i walk to any bars/restaurants/supermarkets from there, and can i expect not to have to watch my back everywhere? Ive walked around queens/bklyn/bronx so i am not naive but ive lived in bad parts of fla and would rather not deal with shady people everywhere...
b) Any specific favorite bars and restaurants you guys reccomend that would kind of new york-esque with the ambiance, good drinks, cute girls, etc...not necessarily trendy but just good solid places.....
c) is it true denver is 55/45 men? does anyone notice that? where are the best place to meet single girls (bars, bookstore, outdoor things?) anywhere specific is appreciated...
d) lastly, on jobs which is not everyones favorite topic...besides craigslist, headhunters, does anyone know any websites (the denver post only has yahoo hot jobs) etc where there are job leads? looking entry level administrative work, financial, clerical, or even bartending......Thanks a lot, sorry for the random rambllings but it helps to know all this stuff for when i get out there...Looking forward to it!

23rd and humbolt *was* a rough area 10-12 years ago. There is still a lot of section 8 in the neighborhood. You have quick access to the Safeway Grocer off of Park Ave and are within an easy bike ride of all the attractions in that area on Colfax.

Would I live there? Sure. I have friends who live farther north on 25th and High (just east) and love the area.

Beatrice and Woodsley down on South Broadway is about as NY as Denver will get.

The Streets of London pub at Park Ave and Colfax is a great locals place. Try the Satire further east on Colfax and don't miss Comedy night at the Squires Lounge down that way too. In the same area you have Cricket on the Hill, Sanchos Broken Arrow (hippie bar), Benders, The Thin Man on 17th and dozens I'm forgetting.

It's not 55/45 for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was 51/49 or 52/48, at least for singles. Denver does seem to attract a few more men than women.

As for jobs, you're on the right track, go ahead and look at monster, hotjobs, careerbuilder, etc. You can also check the classifieds section of Westword.

thanks guys for the good replies, exactly what im looking for! tfox, yeah i noticed a lot (well more than in new york so it seems like a lot) of people are married and/or in relationships, maybe it's an illusion im not sure...not quite as many single women as id like but they gotta be around, this is the 2nd midwest hub besides chicago....
steve, gonna check out that ny-esque area, probably is pretty cool....i'm not worried about my safety in light of your reply, just have to keep wits about you like you do anywhere...love the locals spots and will check those out...section 8 housing isnt too bad just so long as they dont loiter around and stuff which im sure isnt that big of a deal...i like the location for the price, and reasons you mentioned....look forward to hearing from other people as well, thanks!
