I swear I've bought Black Walnuts at the Louisivlle Safeway. Aren't they also called "English Walnuts"?

Nope. English walnuts are your standard, find-em-anywhere walnuts. Black walnuts are pretty much only called Black Walnuts. Very very different taste. Great paired with banana in anything baked. I won a pastry competition once using a black walnut/banana cake combo.

Oh, and sometimes you can find Black Walnuts as a seasonal item in grocery stores. I was hoping to do that. No luck so far.

After seeing your post, I googled black walnuts. The first link was to Hammons black walnuts

In their info about "Where To Buy Black Walnuts," they say that their black walnuts are available in Colorado at Walmart.

I still don't believe that the liquor sales bill has anything to do with this. Like I said in the other thread, Pennsylvania has Trader Joe's, and Pennsylvania also has very strict liquor laws.

I lived in California for awhile and shopped at Trader Joe's occasionally, but quite frankly couldn't care less about whether or not they ever open a store in Colorado.

Pennsylvania is also close to other states that have TJ's and thus an established and close by distribution network so they can take a hit on liquor more so than they can in a region where they would need to build out an entirely new distribution network and not recoup the costs because of the inability to sell liquor.

I would bet beer wine and liquor have everything to do with our lack of Trader Joe's.

Most NJ stores have no alcohol either. One or two got permission to sell wine.

I just went to Trader Joe's "Location Request" web site and filed my "request" at Trader Joe's. I got this response:
Quote:
Aloha and thank you for your interest in our stores. Emails have been flooding in with suggestions for new store locations in neighborhoods all over the U.S. We love that!

Rest assured, every email is read and your recommendation will be passed along to our real estate folks.

The best place to find new info concerning which neighborhoods we’ll be in next is the Trader Joe’s Locations page at http://www.traderjoes.com/static/find_a_tjs.asp

We hope to see you soon!

Mahalo (thanks)
What the heck, let's all send in a request and see what happens!
