+/- 0.25 isn't significant, unless it keeps moving in the same direction every year. 0.25 is the smallest increment that's measured during a refraction, and your answers to which is better can fluctuate by that amount from day to day. Also, astigmatism isn't usually corrected unless it's greater than 0.50 diopters. Most toric (astigmatism-correcting) contact lenses aren't even made in powers less than 0.75.

I've had lasik 12 years ago and I still love it! My eyes were a little dry at first but now it isn't a problem. I recently had to get a very small perscription to wear at night because I was having difficulty with the street signs, the letters weren't that crisp. It's the smallest perscription possible, but I'm also 42. Still don't need reading glasses! I LOVE lasik! It was the best gift that I've given myself. The gift of sight. Go for it!

What I'd be curious to know is: has the dry air been a factor in anyone's decisions to get LASIK? (I live out of state and am contemplating a move to Denver.) Obviously the Denver air is very dry; I'm wondering how that affects people who wear contacts. When I've been on vacation in CO, I constantly carry a bottle of eye-wetter with me. Would your eyes be more comfortable after getting LASIK, accounting for the recovery period?

Look on the internet for a photograph of both Bill Gates and Warren Buffet. These are two of the wealthiest people on the planet.

They both still wear glasses. They could easily hire the most competent eye doctor in the world to do laser eye surgery, but they have decided to forego that opportunity.

Why? Because they both understand risk. Although the probability of a significant after effect to laser surgery is low, the potential adverse consequences are severe.

I agree with them, I'll keep my glasses.

Agreed. The only one who likes lasik is Tiger Woods... oh, nevermind.
