Hi,
I'm thinking of returning to school to get a bachelors degree in computer science/information technology. Can anyone recommend a good program in the Denver area and possibly elaborate on their experiences ? I'm leaning more towards the Information Technology side (possibly software engineering) Thanks in advance for your help.

Why abandon IT? There are still plenty of IT jobs around, they're just not in Colorado. That's 3/4 of the reason I left the state. The IT market is pathetic.

If you're looking for a 4-year program, Colorado State has a decent Computer Science department, otherwise ITT Tech has a campus in Thornton.

There are massive layoffs from practically every major tech company. And the fact that declining salaries have been verified. And the easily verifiable fact that tech employers are pushing hard to replace Americans with offshore workers, and send even more tech jobs offshore.

That's been going on for well over a decade and I'm not standing in a soup kitchen line. The reality of offshoring is that it often ends up wasting more money than it saves.

The company has to hire a manager to work with the overseas team, and often times the product that comes back from the code shack in India is complete crap and ends up being re-worked by a local development team.

Salaries are declining across the board, it's not just IT. The good IT folks can still get a job (and rather easily, I might add).

President Obama and congress are planning to overhaul the corporate tax code to eliminate the outsourcing loophole (as it should be). No company in this country should get a tax break and a pat on the back from Uncle Sam for shipping jobs overseas. The companies who should get tax breaks are the ones who keep jobs here in spite of global labor pressures.
