So...

My gf and I (29 & 34, respectively) currently reside in sunny Las Vegas (read: hot as hell) and have done so for the last couple of years. We have come to the conclusion that we miss the rain and we miss, ya know, seasons. I guess I should mention that I'm a professional poker player and my gf enjoys working at coffee houses etc. to not be bored at home So this puts us in the unique position to choose to move, literally, anywhere in the country that we so desire. I am originally from Portland, Ore. (but have been all over the country/world both in and before 9 years in the USMC), and she is from Amarillo, Tx.

We started out playing around on the site (a site that apparently is not allowed to be linked...tried many different ways to post it)

That had us,basically, looking at the midwest (Ohio, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, etc) and the northwest (Seattle/Portland). After a lot of talking and researching, we also included Denver area and Salt Lake City into the choices.

What we're looking for (not in any real particular order):

1) Not California
2) 4 seasons
3) Not too terribly expensive (both in housing as well as general living cost). We'll be renting at least for the first year or so we're there, but afterward, if we really like it, possibly buy.
4)Fairly close proximity to a casino, but not a "must have"
5) I'm not a fan of the Deep South, nor the Eastern Seaboard...nothing personal, just not a fan, having lived in those areas about 1/3 of my life. But, if it's that good, sell us!
6) We'd like to live somewhere that has either a hockey or baseball team, but again, not a "must have"
7) We like the rain.

There are other little things (have to be able to have a greyhound, therefore somewhere that's not super cold, 24/7, 365, but then again, that falls in line w/ the 4 seasons part) http://static.footballguys.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif (broken link)

So a couple of ifriends suggest Denver and we started reading more about it and the more we do, the more we really like it.

That takes care of the fluff part, now here is what we're here for...We can comfortably afford up to @$1200/mo rent. We need a 2BR (possibly 3BR, but no bigger) and ideally either a rowhouse townhouse or a house.

We've done quite a bit of searching here on the CD forums and have read up about the Bradburn neighborhood. This pretty much sounds like what we're looking for, but we're looking for more info/ideas on neighborhoods that are similar to that (if that's even a recommended one).

Lastly, it doesn't have to be in Denver, exactly. As long as we're 30-45 mins from downtown, we're really ok with actually living up in the mountains themselves, provided we wouldn't be too secluded.

So, what say you, Denver-ites? We'll be checking this thread, hourly (lol) for the next few weeks, so if you need more info to help us out etc, we'll be able to help y'all, help us!

We got plenty of pro sports for you here (NHL,MLB, NBA, NFL). There is also a a gang of casinos within a forty minute drive from Denver (blackhawk/central city) that are 24/7 and are full stakes. Dont know about the rain though I think we get 8-10 inches annually and it tends to be in the summer.

Oh for sure. We're fully aware of these things, which is why we're strongly looking at Denver.

What we're mainly asking for is help w/ neighborhoods etc.

Thanks!

what kind of help would you like with neighborhoods?

rentals will depend on your price range.

coffee shops are everywhere.

you'll need a house with a yard.

give us more of what you need.

I am guessing Arvada would suit you.

coffee shops are everywhere. We'd also love to be able to walk out from our place and go have a cup (ie. close)

you'll need a house with a yard. Not nec. Greyhounds are the worlds fastest couch potatoes. A 10 min. walk and they're about done exercising

give us more of what you need.

Hope that clarifies things. Thanks!

I would look in the north Highlands neighborhood. Anything along Tennyson Street that's south of I-70.

In a normal year (not this one), it doesn't rain much. You might miss it. I did at first, but now not so much.

No, that is a mistake. Stay east of I-25 at all costs. The highlands is trendy because it is cheap, it is also a void in terms of things to do and a pain to get anywhere relative to anywhere else (plays into the cheap part).

Someone mentioned Arvada, downtown Arvada would fit the requirements, sans light rail for the moment which at this point only runs south of the city and into suburban strip mall hell.

City Park West, Cheeseman, West Wash Park are other central areas to consider that meet your requirements.

I'm from Austin TX and people from California are moving here by the bus loads. I was thinking of moving to Colorado, LOL.
