I'm bound for Denver by way of NYC, and have no vehicle. I'm prepared to depend primarily on RTD.

I also plan to purchase the Epic pass and spend as many days boarding as possible. I doubt there are reasonable, reliable public transportation options for frequent winter mtn trips. Apparently the ski train is defunct. I'll certainly look into ski carpool, so I don't have to drive each trip. I suspect I need a car to support my epic weekends... maybe a winter driving course & all weather tires too. I would like to know what the weekend warriors and mtn commuters are driving.

To those schlepping through the mountains 20+ days during a winter season (for sports/lifestyle/commuting); what are you driving? What are the pros/cons about your chosen mode of transportation?

I think you'll have a hard time getting to the resorts without a 4WD or without friends with such vehicles. During the best snow months, you pretty much must have 4WD (at the very least, all wheel drive).

i just drive a front wheel drive camry with bald tires and laugh at all the dumbass people who think they are untouchable in their 4 wheel drive. Then I laugh even harder when I see them flipped over on the side of I-70. I average about 60+ days snowboarding a year.
