I just read that a female police officer was shot and killed trying to break up a disturbance in a park where a summer Jazz concert was being held. My prayers and condolences go out to the officer's family, the police department and the city. My hope is that the person responsible will be apprehended quickly.

Just another day in the paradise known as Denver! I'm sure as soon as the investigation wraps up and the killer or killers are convicted, this will just be swept under the rug. RIP to the officer. I can't imagine enjoying a nice glass of chardonnay and a piece of brie, listening to some nice jazz, when shots just ring out! How unsettling.

You are disgusting to trivialize a death.

Disgusting. The mayor said he was there with his family. Positive vibes go out to the officer's family.

I understand it was a "fight between two groups of people." Not to speculate, but gang stuff maybe? And if so, did they really have to settle their beef in the middle of a family event downtown?

Why do you think they would care?

Really sad. I was in the area, but not at the festival. I saw a million cop cars go by, but I didn't realize what happened until today.

We really need to start treating these gangs as domestic terrorists. Seriously, which is worse gang killings and crime or Al Qaeda? The DPD needs to go on a rampage of arrests and plenty of broken eye sockets and fractured skulls along the way. These savages need to get the message this behavior is unacceptable.

Well wishes and condolences are nice and all but until action is taken this will just happen again and again.

I hope that we attempt to make all decisions on law and enforcement on random acts of violence.

Come on people. I know this is horrible . . .it really is. yet don't let the Vividness fallacy take hold. Crime rate, last time I check, is at a lower level (per 100k) than the 60s. Even if we really executed on improvements to curtail crime. . .this kind of event is a non-event from a macro-crime. its just a random "noise" or interference. The real crime is gang on gang/etc.
