Something crazy happened this week, I got a job offer in Des Moines. I can honestly say that Des Moines is a place I never thought I would consider. I have done some research and think is sounds like a nice place. I am from Michigan so the winters don't bother me. So my question, what does the city have to offer? I am a single 32 year old female. What is the night life like? Is there a lot of stuff to do? My other option is a much larger city but the job in Des Moines would be a great move for my career.

I moved here from CT ten years ago because my husband received a great job offer. Like you, Des Moines was never on our radar screen. However, our family has flourished here - and I now own a community transition consulting company that "fills in the gaps" between what realtors and recruiters can do to help "transplants" successfully integrate into the community. I really enjoy Des Moines. I have relatives there and I have always found things to do. You have a decent amusement park; Adventureland, a good nightlife, the Iowa Cubs, the Barnstormers, and decent bands come in for concerts. You also have all the shopping you can handle. In general it's a pretty nice place.
