The Moores are the fourth metro Detroit couple in the last month involved in murder-suicides or attempts. On Aug. 18 in West Bloomfield, Ellery Bennett, 47, stabbed his wife, Lisa, 46, before apparently stabbing himself and driving to the hospital, police said.
On Aug. 22., Daljit Rangi, 65, of Lake Orion stabbed his wife, Rosemary, 56, before setting his home on fire and dying inside. She survived. In Westland on Aug. 30, Lutfi Dashi, 59, killed himself after shooting his wife, Ermira, 50. She died of her wounds in the hospital.

I wonder how much of this is driven by stress caused by economic conditions.

LEWISTON - A 50-year-old Lewiston man, the suspect in a double homicide at a Lewiston residence Monday afternoon, was found 300 miles south of the crime scene in Noble County, Ind. with self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

A Tuesday news release from the Montmorency County Sheriff’s Dept. (MCSD) stated the suspect, identified as Louis Edward Tantalo, died at a Ft. Wayne, Ind. hospital.

According to Sheriff Donald Edwards deputies were dispatched to 2390 Big Buck Drive, a residence just east of County Road 489 in Lewiston around 3 p.m. in response to a report of a double homicide. A 70-year-old man, Ronald Vincent Smith and 82-year-old Jean Elizabeth Carpenter, were found deceased at the scene.

Autopsies performed Tuesday at Spectrum Health Center in Grand Rapids concluded the victims had died from gunshot wounds to the head.

Edwards said the sheriff’s department’s investigation indicated Tantalo killed the couple and was the estranged husband of Smith’s daughter. He was located on state land in Noble County, southeast of Fort Wayne, Ind. and was later pronounced dead from self-inflicted gunshot wounds.
Maybe the new 8 Mile is M32?

"in the suburbs"

...and everywhere else.

I wonder if some of these were copy-cat cases. The ages of the couples may pose some clues. Maybe once the children have grown, there is less desire to try to keep things "normal", i.e. to put up with the lack of love for the benefit of kids?

People live such insular lives now-a-days, it's hard to ask for or offer help. I know a woman who killed her husband after years of abuse and no one suspected anything beforehand. I had neighbors once who fought (physically) often. I never saw it, but I could hear it. It was getting so bad, I was considering how to intervene, but they ended up moving out.

I think people need to spend more time with extended family and friends so there can be a better chance for people to discuss their marriage experiences and offer and receive advice. Most marriages go through some difficulty, but unless we learn from those who have made it successfully through tough times, we can feel there is no hope for our particular case.
