Our 17 yo daughter is really into old '60s music on vinyl. We got her a stack of vintage records for Christmas, but the new turntable that we ordered from Amazon to play them on was junk and we had to return it. She would really like an authentic vintage turntable that isn't too pricey (under $150) but in decent shape. I know that there are several vintage record stores around Detroit and its suburbs, but does anyone know which ones might sell vintage turntables as well?

Thanks.

Give Record Collector a call - they might be able to send you in the right direction...

One of your friends or neighbors probably have one collecting dust in their basement.

There's a record shop on midtown somewhere, I think in the cass corridor area. I had walked in there but I can't remember the name - a google search says its called People's Records. I can't remember seeing any record players, but they have a ton of super cool old records, and a ton of motown collections, so if she's into 60s music it might still be worth a visit!

There's also Showtime, two blocks north of the DIA. Again, I can't remember if they have record players, but it's very possible they do, since they have a lot of vintage clothing, sunglasses, and general wares. The owner is super friendly too, which is reassuring since the place looks pretty creepy (no windows!) from the outside. They have, like, jackets that Michael Jackson performed in and stuff like that. You might just want to go check it out; even if they don't end up having record players I'm sure the owner could point you in the right direction.

I would try Royal Oak. They have a ton of stores with vintage everything! Good luck! Sounds like fun!

If you are downriver, there was a guy in the Gibraltar Trade Center that sold vinyl records.

Turntables are not hard to find. Aplifiers are also available. What are hard to get is cartirdges. Some of the better ones are very very pricey.

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions. She actually just found a nice 1950s model on Ebay that was reasonably priced and listed by a very highly rated seller who stated that it works fine, so hopefully it will be a good one. Gosh, it was even made in America, if you can imagine!
