Along these lines, thought this was interesting.

This Is What Detroit Could Look Like In 2033 ... And Beyond

Personally, After living in Metro Detroit for almost a quarter of a century, I frankly think the article is full of crap. There aren't enough middle class jobs to support that many people in Detroit. Where would the current residences live?
Of course you think it's full of crap - that's why you brought it up. It's called "wishful thinking".
Where did those "middle class jobs" go and/or why aren't they there now? I think you have somewhat predictable ideas on that. Whatever will you do when Detroit turns around?
Detroit can easily turn around with motivated people who work to make it so. With people of vision and talent, twenty years is enough time to do a lot of good in both business and government. Sorry about that.

What a silly article. I can never figure out how people get these crazy optimistic ideas. Where will the money come from? The city is broke, the federal govt. is broke. The decline will continue and my guess is that the city will continue to survive to a degree on fumes. There are other cities not unlike this. In the ancient world there are all kinds of cities that were at one time huge and then abandoned, like Babylon.

Well, if the nation as a whole is broke, that's not necessarily so bad for Detroit, since it means less development in the suburbs (of Detroit, and of other cities, especially some of the ones that have been booming lately) since new development costs $$$, whether that's building a new freeway loop to encourage suburban development in the sunbelt, or a new skyscraper in NYC. The country's population is likely to continue growing at a decent pace though, so that will create more demand for existing housing, making it less likely to go abandoned.

Also, a lot of other cities and states are broke or close, so following the bankruptcy Detroit won't be at as much of a disadvantage.

Yep, can't have that crazy optimism. Know what that leads to? Failure!
