About 10-15 years ago Moroun floated the idea of trying to get everyone on board to build a new, larger rail tunnel and the turning the old rail tunnel into a dedicated truck tunnel. Obviously everyone opinions split along the their respective camps. Moroun saw windfall of monopolizing on the truck traffic, the city of Windsor didn’t want the truck traffic in the neighborhoods around the rail tunnel, and so forth. This talk all went away once the new bridge came to be.

The rail tunnel is still extensively used. The tunnel in Port Huron is actually larger and can handle double stacked rail cars.
Yea, it's used, though I don't know about extensively. It can't do double-stacked and there's a reason why double-stacked rail cars exist. It'd be nice if the new bridge were able to handle such as steel-on-steel friction coefficients are very low and so rail is really efficient in that sense and more, but I guess it was such a massive undertaking to just get any new bridge going that I can't begrudge moving forward for what works now-ish.

Does anyone know if there are any indications that the younger generation of Morouns are maybe a bit more, uh, civically-minded?

I have not dealt with him personally, but I have been told the son is even worse.

Raised to believe the only thing more important than making money is making money while hurting other people in some way, we really cannot expect a lot.

Default Well,

The Maroons I think, remind me of someone else out there. If you know what I mean? The hurting others ,
I believe I know of a tale very similar to this one. Very recently.
We cannot really expect a lot from these, no.
