We're thinking about a second home in Michigan, found a condo in Fenton. We were originally looking in the Plymouth/Northville area (that's where we lived) but those areas are in high demand and a bit out of our budget. We also were interested in a lake front home, since we sold ours in 2008, but again those properties are in high demand, and bidding wars. Any opinions on the Fenton area - it's not terribly far from family, and closer to northern Michigan, so could easily do day trips north, possibly fishing.

Homes are much cheaper on the western side of the state. The demand for housing here is too high to find any cheap real estate. I like the Fenton-Holly area too but as you said earlier on, expensive. A friend of mine just moved back here from Arizona and he bought in Holly two years ago and bought a lakefront fixer upper
for $125,000. But. Everything has gone up in price, since then.
