It's good to see that many areas in suburban Detroit be recognized as good places to live. Despite the economy being in shambles, all of these areas as well as many others across Michigan are excellent places to live. Finding places that are safe, offer good schools, and reasonably priced houses are hard to find, but Metro Detroit has plenty to these to offer.

How do they determine what the best place to live is? All those places except Ann Arbor, to me are extremely boring and suburban.

I know that every city on that list except maybe Sterling Heights has been fast growing in the past few years, I'm sure that is one way they figure it out.

I think it has to do with crime, schools, growth, amongst other factors. I know that Troy is always on the list too, but they don't really have a great downtown area. Their schools are good and they have Somerset...

Money Magazine tends to change the criteria of the cities they choose. For this issue, they tended to focus on small cities with good schools, afforable housing, etc.
