I'm looking again into making a career change from a boring mindless office job to a rewarding career in allied health. I am looking at sonography and biomedical equipment tech, primarily. Can anyone give me the "real deal" on the job market for these in the Detroit area - supposedly there's still a demand for ultrasound techs but I've also read horror stories of people who quit their jobs to go to school, graduated, and now don't have a job. And this is in healthcare. Seems like a case of "don't believe the hype."

I know Michigan as a whole is pretty bleak as far as job market, but whoever is in the field as an ultrasound tech or biomedical equipment tech, I'd really appreciate your input.

Thanks in advance!

the only career path for which there are absolutely no jobs in metro dtroit is residential real estate developer. There are some jobs in pretty much every other field. The concern is that there are often dozens of candidates for every job offered in some fields. Mecdical tech is supposed to be better than many areas. Last year, I saw a list of unfilled positions for the Henry Ford health care system and the number of positions was considerable. I am not sure where ti stands now. You can find that list on the web. Other systems probably have simlar information available.

I have been checking out the hospital websites pretty regularly for positions - but I'm finding out not all are posted online.
