Wonder if doc takes me seriously... (buy, blood, plan, Walmart)

So I recently have been having an eye issue that couldn't be figured out. Blurriness, trouble with one eye in particular. Had a lot of blood tests by my opthomologist. All came back neg. or within range except for my Hemoglobin A1c, which is 5.9%.
I had gestational diabetes with both my kids, had gone in a few months ago for a numb foot (regular doc suggested that I should stop crossing my legs when I sit) and went in last Wednesday, because at work, all of the sudden I got really dizzy, nauseous, headache, and ended up vomiting in the nurses office at the school I teach at. I never get sick, so even the secretaries were concerned. I went to my regular doc again, and he tested me for vertigo, said something to the effect that 'sure it wasn't in my head' and said I should go home and lie down.
I guess I'm venting, because my regular doc just sent me an email that my blood sugar is normal.
I would think with my history, and many, many 1st cousins, uncles and aunties with both type 1 and type 2, I should be at least told to watch my diet, and exercise!
Anyway, I wrote back and pointed out that the information that was linked by Kaiser on my test results showed me as 'pre-diabetic' and my health issues recently can be associated with blood sugar.

I think I need to find another doctor.
Thanks for listening.
Are you saying you're disappointed you're not diabetic? I would think you would be happy about that. In any event, it's good for everyone to get regular exercise, and a low carb diabetic diet is a healthy diet to follow whatever your general health is. A little off topic, but it seems odd that you would get test results emailed to you. I hope you gave your doc permission because that's a violation of HIPAA laws normally, I think.
No, I'm disappointed that he said it was normal, instead of saying you need to be pro-active, looking at my history. Or the literature that came with my test results.
I'm part of Kaiser Permanente, and all the results are emailed to me, with links to explain the tests and the results.

It's not odd to get the test results emailed to you...I get my test results from Labcorp sometimes before my doctor gets them.
OP, if you're worried about your blood sugar, you can buy a meter for $16 and 50 test strips for $9 at Walmart. Test when you get up in the morning, two hours after meals, and any time you're feeling strange. If you get numbers higher than they should be, you can bring that up with your doctor. If you don't get higher than normal numbers, then you will have spend $26 to reassure yourself...cheaper than a lot of doctor visits and bloodwork.
Thank you Hedgehog_Mom! I got online and found a certificate to get a free meter, and plan to do that. I know when it comes down to it, I have to be the one to take care of my health. (I confess to being a carb/fresh bread lover, and *always* had my bit of chocolate after every meal, lol.)

Usually when you get the meter for free, they make up for it in the cost of the test strips. So call your pharmacy and check the price of the strips before you order the free meter...I have one sitting on my desk that I got for free, but the copay for the strips was $20 for 50 strips, so it wasn't worth using instead of the Walmart one.
My wife developed the same type of symptoms (in one eye) and she was found to have the 'wet form' of macular degeneration. This condition is progressive and eventually causes blindness (or used to). It used to be untreatable, but they now have a medication (given via a shot to the eye) which can halt progression, but not reverse the damage done.
Her doctors wasted far too much time thinking her symptoms were due to diabetes or a slew of other problems, before one decided to have an ophthalmologist check her eye.
Thank you legalsea, I have been seeing an ophthalmologist, although after some 11 blood tests, she still doesn't know what's wrong with my eye. I have another appointment in two weeks, and if my eye is still inflamed, she'll send me to a specialist. :/
Hedgehog mom, I got my meter! Learning how to use it. It's pretty inexpensive for the strips and poker things, if we get them through Amazon. I ended up with the True2Go, and a mail-in rebate for the cost, because the strips and such were way cheaper than the one I had the certificate for!
If your many blood sugar tests are coming back normal its obviously not a diabetic problem, also if it were diabetic related it would be affecting both eyes. Puzzling why your doctor is having trouble diagnosing your problem or to date hasnt recommended a good eye doctor. I suspect your inflamed eye has nothing to do with diabetes.

It does indeed require a macular specialist (I do not understand why your ophthalmologist would be doing any blood tests). Anyway, it is a very specific test requiring a very expensive piece of equipment (I guess a very, very, very high resolution camera or such).
