I had my blood work done 3 months ago. Right after that, I started taking a multi vitamin. I just had my blood work done again and my A1C went up by 1.5 and my sugar went up by 75 points!

The ONLY thing that has changed between then and now was that I started taking the multi.

Has this happened to anyone else? The doc wants to see me and I know he's going to want to increase or change my meds and I don't want to do that. I've stopped taking the vitamin and I'm hoping my A1C goes down.

Well, it could. Not likely by that much but it could. Read the label or search on the Internet to see if it has any sugar in it, hidden or otherwise. By hidden I mean look for words like dextrose, high fructose corn syrup, etc.
oh,,,are they the gummy type vitamins? Those could be loaded with sugar. But....usually a person only takes one so I woukd think the amount of sugar in a vitamin would be small.

A better guess might be that you have become insulin resistant or your pancreas isn't working as well as it used to (beta cell burnout). Happened to me.

I would suggest cutting a few carbs and see if that helps. And start testing your blood glucose at one and two hours after meals. At one hour your glucose should ideally be 140 or below and at two hours the ideal number is 120 or below. Fasting glucose in the morning (or when you wake up) should ideally be below 100.
Meters are inexpensive but test strips aren't unless you use a store brand. Example, I use the Walmart ReliOn micrometer and it was about $12 and 50 test strips are under $20. Walgreens and other stores have similar costs for meters and strips.

Hope this helps. Jmo

I read the label and no sugars at all. They're not gummies; they're gel caps.

I just found it strange that I started the vites right after my last bloodwork and then my sugars went crazy.

I saw my endocrinologist today and she said it's very unlikely that it was the vites.... more like I need to tweak the meds.

Strange things happen with diabetes. Hmmm....try testing with no vitamin, and in a few days take one and test. .

Oh, we're you sick during that time? Some people's bg spikes when they're sick.

Anyway, I hope the numbers come back down for you quickly.

Something as simple as being under more stress or drinking coffee before your blood test could have raised your blood sugar. A single higher reading is not an issue.

The higher A1C is more an issue since it can show a longer elevated blood sugar.

The only way I can see a multi raising blood sugar other than containing a sugar would be if it also contains certain enzymes like amylase, cellulase and hemicellulase.

Have you looked in to chromium and magnesium to correct your blood sugar imbalance?
