I have been testing my BG levels after certain foods and tracking it with a phone app. Monthly average is 105; which converts to A1C 5.3.

I get so many mixed messages from reading online sites.
is A1C of 5.3 good, bad, decent?

Thx

Well, it is excellent. Hemoglobin A1c percentages for non-diabetics should be 6 percent or less. For diabetics, the goal is 7 percent or less. 5.3 means optimal glucose control.

A tbsp. Apple Cider vinegar and a piece of a cheese last thing before bed where my "cure" fro Dawn Phenomenon.

These days I don't worry about it. If my BG goes down after eating breakfast - then I know it's DP - and my liver is a helpful bugger. Nothing I can do about that, other than get up in the middle of the night to eat and head off my liver squirting some glucose a couple of hours later. I value my sleep. lol

I am more confused than ever. When I watch what I eat and make an effort to be good my BG can be between 102 and 110...when I let go and eat whatever (white flour, sugar etc) my BG is lower.

I ate a cinnabon and after 2h BG was 95, 2h after a "good" meal I am usually 105 or above.

What the he#$.

between 95 and 105 is fairly negligible though.

I think the more important thing is how high the highs go. Remember insulin resistance which leads to type 2 is the inability of your insulin receptors to cope with the volume of insulin that is needed to remove the sugar from your blood.

I think a better test would be to look at the 1h BG after eating these foods.

If at one hour your cinnabon BG is closer to 200, but the healthy meal BG is like 120...then which do you think is more beneficial in the long term to your insulin sensitivity.

Well -- after a good meal if you sit on the sofa and play on your computer and watch TV, your BG will be higher than if you eat a cinnabon and are walking all over the mall shopping and expending energy.

If you had taken the cinnabon at home, ate it there and sat you'd be comparing apples to apples.
