My friend neglected her diabetes for 15 years. Never been on meds. Eats candy constantly and her teeth were fine after not cleaning then for 5 years. I just wonder if she really is diabetic? I know for myself I felt symptoms but my fasting blood sugar was 75 so they said I was ok. Hers she said was 200 which I know is very high.

Can years and years of uncontrolled Type 2 Diabetes cause dental problems?

In many cases, yes ... maybe in most cases.

Diabetes increases your risk for a number of maladies, including neuropathy, diabetic retinopathy, heart attack, stroke, etc. However gum disease is one of the most common. A friend of mine, now about 58 years old didn't even know he was diabetic until he went to the dentist's office about 10 years ago. He had to have his upper teeth removed and wears an upper denture now.

The number 200 is very high, something to be concerned about and it must be addressed ... but it is not off the charts. According to my Endocrinologist, I should be between 105 and 115. I'm told that there are people walking around not even aware they are severely diabetic with A1c scores of 12, 13, 14 (anything over 7 is diabetic). For me 75 is too low. If I get down to 70 I start taking a glucose tablet or drink some juice or have some bread.

OP: I just responded to your post about colleagues not liking you.
This would be "exhibit A" as to a possible motive.
You are accusing your friend of lying about being Diabetic, based on your investigative dental work.
Not to mention you are also posting her personal health business on a public message board without her consent or some sort of plan to get her help.
What does it matter to you? Leave it alone, who cares.
If you keep this up, much like your co-workers, in a few months this friend is going to start acting "weird" around you.

I didn't accuse her of lying. I meant maybe she was misdiagnosed. Also it's I don't talk about anything to coworkers, friends etc. Why do you think I post it all here?

Diabetes on it's own does not cause dental problems that I know of.
Eating candy constantly and not cleaning them for 5 years will cause major dental problems
A fasting BG of 200 is a full blown diabetic. Is she seeking treatment? If she keeps it up she WILL develop other related health issues.
