Hypoglycemia is indicative of blood sugar instability, which is a sign that the metabolic hormones aren't functioning properly, I guess.

Are you referring to the glucose tester kit that comes with test strips, meter and lancets? It's a very simple device to use. Scratching my head in amazement that you doctor or for that matter, the pharmacist wouldn't help you. Go to youtube and search "how to test your glucose" or something like that. You can find just about everything on youtube. You'll be a pro in no time.
