You can look up the side effects of drugs here. https://www.rxlist.com/script/main/hp.asp

I'm sure you're already aware that diabetes itself causes kidney damage. High blood pressure also causes kidney damage.

If your friend has stage 3 kidney failure s/he must be seeing a nephrologist who can be a very good source of information on drugs that affect kidneys..as for repairing a damaged kidney? not likely, your best hope is delaying the inevitable, same goes for diabetes.

It’s far more likely that the diabetes itself caused the kidney damage, not the diabetic medicines. Diabetes is the biggest cause of kidney disease in the country. If it were reparable, there wouldnt be so many people on the transplant waiting list. If you want to help your friend and others with kidney disease, sign the back of your drivers license to be an organ donor.

Taking diabetes medication for years doesn't guarantee that her blood sugar has been controlled for years. Has her blood sugar actually been controlled with the medication, or has her blood sugar been high all this time?

My brother took insulin for years, but his blood sugar was still uncontrolled, and his kidneys eventually failed.

Diabetes damages kidneys.

Did he go on a kidney machine? My friend has been going too the bathroom like 15 times a night and wonder if it's because of her kidneys?

No, he died before it got that far.

Frequent urination is a sign of uncontrolled diabetes.

She does take one pill for diabetes a day. She's been eating everything like a healthy person can eat for your years. She eats all sugary things and puts 12 packs of sugar in her coffee. But her BG levels has been good like 109-129 for one test after eating. So I think this kidney damage is from her bi-polar pills she been taking over last 40 years.

Sugary things and 12 packs of sugar in her coffee...that's not good. One BG level after eating doesn't tell you much...an A1c is needed.

If her diabetes is uncontrolled, and she's taking a lithium-based nephrotoxic bipolar medication on top of that, something needs to be done immediately to protect her kidneys from further damage.
