People call me out for drinking always have to point out their ignorance thinking alcohol is somehow sugar and badger me.
This is the age of Google, so I don't engage in the argument just say wanna bet? lets go online.
If Alcohol was sugar it would not be called Alcohol. It would have a sugar name.
Fructose: found in fruits and honey.
Galactose: found in milk and dairy products.

Lactose: found in milk, made from glucose and galactose.

Alcoholic fermentation begins with the breakdown of sugars by yeasts to form pyruvate molecules, which is also known as glycolysis. Glycolysis of a glucose molecule produces two molecules of pyruvic acid. The two molecules of pyruvic acid are then reduced to two molecules of ethanol and 2CO2
Nice link thanks. I am out the door right now but last night I heard that "alcohol is sugar" nonsense AGAIN and its so frustrating, I am a just like please stop !
When a person argues with me that "alcohol is sugar" they are basically saying they are smarter then me and I don't know what I am talking about. That's not the case.
I knew chemistry before I ever got this Moderator cut: language diagnosis. Was one of my favorite classes.

So it's your family and friends commenting on your alcohol consumption?
Or are complete strangers coming up to you and telling you that you shouldn't be consuming alcohol because you have diabetes?
You are looking at the isolated chemical equation associated with metabolism. You aren't taking into account pathological states associated with alcoholism and excess amounts. The alcoholics and people who binge drink often don't eat or unable hold down food. The excess alcohol increases the NADH/NAD+ ratio through the pathway you cited. This decreases insulin levels and increases counter-insulin hormones and increases fatty formation along with ketone bodies. Acoholics like type ! idabetics can come down with ketoacidosis which is life threatening on it's own.
Although not the same thing they can share common similarities. Higly refiend spirits don't have any carbohydrates but it is a different story with malted liqueurs and beers and juiced drinks.
