I have seen the recommendations on water vary from eight 8 oz glasses a day to a gallon a day. I love water, but drinking a gallon a day seems excessive.

How much water do you all drink a day? I don't really measure my intake, but I do like to drink enough so that my urine is light yellow (sorry if TMI).

And how does water aid fat loss? I know that your body will hold onto water if it doesn't get enough, but will drinking water help you burn fat?

I have recently begun drinking more water, and I try to drink at least half my body weight in oz. That's my water goal everyday. It sucks having to run to the bathroom all the time, but I do believe it aids my weight loss. And this is coming from an almost reformed diet coke addict lol

I probably drink between a half and whole gallon a day, but I live at high altitude and dehydration is more rapid up here.

I'm not sure if it aids me specifically in fat loss, I've always been a big water drinker, so it was never a replacement for another drink.

I drink a lot of water, without a doubt, more water than any other liquid, the only carbonated beverage I allow myself is one IBC Root Beer at the start of a Panthers Game, after that it is iced water. Well.......there is one exception, I drink a quart of gatorade before I donate blood, and I donate blood about every six weeks. They always need B+.

Yeah the 8 glasses a day are important, my weight loss seemed to speed up. Not sure why though. It certainly helped curb the snacking when you're full of water all the time.

Dehydration can slow the metabolism by up to 10% so that is how it can aid in weight loss. The urine, sweat and breath is how your body gets rid of your burned off fat. Everyone's water needs are different based on activity level, food intake, surrounding temps and altitude. The 8 glasses a day is general guidance to aid in digestion for the 2000 calorie basic intake to maintain. But using your body's signs is a good way to find the proper amount for you. Urine should be light to almost clear. Over hydrating can flush the body of nutrients it needs. Dehydration can also be mistaken to hunger. They feel similar and that can also aid in weight loss because you are eating less usually.

I used the formula of half my body's weight in ounces. If I workout where I sweat: I take weight before and after. The ounces changed are what I drink back to avoid dehydration from exercise.

I dont really think of hydration as an aid to fat loss.

Im not really sure how much water I drink per day. The more active I am the more I drink. I drink water with every meal (or occasional non sweetened iced tea), but really I have no idea how much I drink.

Good for you!

I used to be addicted to diet coke too, drank it instead of water. When I broke my leg, the doctors said if I ever wanted to walk again I couldn't have any more diet coke, or any other soda with phosphoric acid.

I heard somewhere that you are suppose to take what you weigh and take one fourth of that weight and drink that in ounces. That's what I have been doing.

I dont know about that. IF that were the case, a 100 pound woman would drink 25 oz of water per day which seems like not enough. Also, what if that 100 pound woman plays tennis in 95 degree temp each day? What if she does 1.5 hours cardio kickboxing? A 200 pound man would need 50oz of water, is that standing still? Light activity? Moderate activity? It would really depend on your level of activity. Plus, too much water and you lose electrolytes.

As far as trying to drink water for fat loss, I say baloney. I think some people try to "trick" themselves into eating less than they normally do by drinking water before the meal and "hoping" they wouldnt eat so much. This is silly and doesnt promote fat loss like daily intense cardio would.
