Shaklee DOES intend for its supplements to do what they're advertised to do and generally speaking, they do exactly what they claim to do. That, by default, makes them..

something other than snake-oil

HOWEVER - for the price, they're not all that impressive. There's no reason to spend a lot of money on the stuff they sell, when you can get the same quality stuff manufactured by other companies for much less.

Overpriced, yes. Snake-oil, no.

I still have more to say. I'd be a fool to question your experience...so I won't. However, I will say that my experience was quite different. Other than the price point I was quite pleased. The products I used seemed to be high quality and the dealer service was excellent. As others have mentioned, the same quality products are widely available in health food stores and even the big chain supermarkets for alot less money, so I rarely purchase Shaklee products. But that's becasue they are overpriced IMO, not because of poor quality, availability, or service. If they brought their prices in line with similar quality products, I would probably buy Shaklee more often.
I'm glad that you both understand that I related only my personal experience with this product line. The products I tried didn't work as stated i.e. snake oil.

I used to use the stuff back in the 70's. my sister was a distributor. I used to love the protein powder and energy bars. Vita-lea, Basic-H and Herb-lax were some of the products I remember. Never had anything bad to say about the stuff.

I would be interested to learn what she found as Shaklee has swamped the internet with all of there "garb" and I can't seem to find an independent opinion on the products to save my soul. I have been looking for 2 hours now. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Multilevel marketing is a racket. Push over-priced products on your friends and family. I don't know why anyone would want to do that.

If their products are so great then why aren't they distributed to stores like normal products?

Multi-level marketing is a legitimate business model. Not having products sold in brick and mortar stores is a means of eliminating the expense of building and maintaining brick and mortar buildings. Jeff Bezos' recognition of that fact made him a billionaire. Many other online retailers have successfully followed in his footsteps. Products being sold or not being sold in stores has nothing to do with their quality. You can walk into almost any store on the planet and buy yourself a crappy product. I'm sure you've done it.
