Lilly - sorry, but you sound ridiculous. You should know, if you have an ounce of common sense, that NO ONE should be eating five pounds of carrots - or anything else - in one day and asking if they are actually practicing a healthy choice and if a bonafide, legitimate program like Weight Watchers would actually say that's a good food choice. Come on.
That would be like saying, "I can eat a tablespoon of sugar, so I can eat a pound of sugar and be OK." Or "Diet drinks don't have any calories, so I can drink a case of diet drinks every day and be OK."
Go to the Weight Watchers site and check out the program. I really recommend that you join Weight Watchers and attend a few meetings -and try out the program rather than one weird and misapplied portion of the program. I've lost 18 pounds since July on Weight Watchers, and others here have lost that much and more. The PROGRAM really works.
But then, I don't eat five pounds of carrots in a day either. I might eat three carrots in one day, and some cabbage, and some green beans, and an apple - but not five pounds of ANYTHING.
Carrots have sugar in them, yes they are a fee food on WW but I suggest only have 1 cup at dinner or lunch. Fruit is free but has sugar in it also. They want you to have at least 8 servings of fruits and vegetables. Bananas are a free fruit on WW but are loaded eith starch and can make you constapated if you eat too much, then you won't loose weight. Canned fruits are not free some are 3 points for 1/2 cup. Potatoes, corn, peas, parsnips have ponts these are not free, all beans have points as well. You can over load on fruit and gain weight that week it's possible. You need to add more fiber and protein to you diet as well. 3 servings of dairy a day which includes 1 cup skim or 1% milk, 1 oz cheese, 1 cup cottage cheese, yogurt ect.... You must have 3 tsp of healthy oils a day like olive, canola, ,safflower. So if you are having carrots drizzle some olive oil on them before roasting and add a Tsp of salt.
OK USDA says a little over 900 calories. So you think it'd still be free?
No. Again as others have said, it's reasonable amounts and carrots probably have more calories than many vegetables. Same thing for fresh fruit.
