Does the conservation of energy law apply to humans which are an open system? YES. However, it gets real complicated because we are OPEN SYSTEMS. I have spoken to a world class physicist on this.

The conservation of energy law applies IN GENERAL, BUT that includes heat transfered to and from the body, as well as nutrients and fuel burning. Furthermore, it does NOT EXPLAIN- EXPLAIN obesity WHATSOEVER.

Adipose tissue is a complex ENDOCRINE ORGAN. This is recent knowledge accepted by all scientists. The outdated view that it is only a passive storage resevior is no longer valid.

Fat mass is AGGRESSIVELY DEFENDED against losses INVOLUNTARILY. Your body has all sorts of tricks This includes ( but is in no way limited to ) a whopping 25 % DROP in metabolism as Dr. Rudolph Liebel's research demonstrated.

The first law of thermodynamics EXPLAINS NOTHING about obesity at all. It's a TAUTOLOGY. It is POINTLESS to mention it because it EXPLAINS NOTHING. It does NOT EXPLAIN obesity.

Here are the many things FAR beyond the first law's reach:

*normal weight obesity ( a real medical condition)

*the chemical behavior of fat cell receptors

* what disregulates fat cells

*lipodystrophy ( where emaciation and obesity manifest on the same patient)

* why women carry signifiocantly more body fat than men despite eating less calories

*the process of gaining muscle rather than gaining fat ( these people are in a positive energy balance as well !)

*calorie partitioning ( a central issue) : whether calories are excreted, used to repai cells and maintain organs, used for fuel, or shuttled to fat mass or muscle tissue.

The first law says NOTHING ABOUT and EXPLAINS NOTHING ABOUT the above points. The first law of thermodynamics EXPLAINS NOTHING about obesity. It EXPLAINS NOTHING WHATSOEVER.

I am in contact with very respected obesity scientists ( besides my usual scientists) and they ALL have told me:

" The caloric hypothesis is FAR TOO SIMPLISTIC by itself TO EXPLAIN OBESITY OR FAT CELL BEHAVIOR."

"The regulation of body weight is TOO HIGHLY COMPLICATED to only be explained by the caloric hypothesis."

REAL scientists are studying ADIPOCYTE DISREGULATION:
