I still don't think it's necessary for weight loss, though. If in a typical 24-hour period, you eat fewer calories than you've burned, you will lose weight, period, unless you have an overriding medical condition.

I've never been big on breakfast. As a kid, it made me nauseous. As an adult, I just don't wake up hungry. On the weekends, I get up, have a cup of coffee, go to the gym, and typically don't eat a bite of food until after noon. Workdays, I take a yogurt and a little granola/fresh blueberries to work and eat that around 9 a.m.

I've always heard "it's the most important meal of the day", blah, blah, blah. I've never been overweight or underweight. If I'm not hungry, I'm not going to eat.

OP,
You should decide by how you feel and how your body reacts when skipping breakfast. We are all different and studies don't take that into consideration. Be your own scientist.
My husband wakes up hungary, needs lots of protein for breakfast or he gets tired and weak by lunch.
I am never hungary in the morning. I gain weight if I start eating breakfast of any sort, and I feel sluggish and tired. I am 62, very healthy, and rarely eat a breakfast. So be your own scientist.

Starving yourself will not change the allocation of fat on your body, but it will make your body more sedentary, causing your energy expended to decrease in proportion and in line with the amount you're depriving yourself.

Reduce HFCS, sugars first, then starches, and follow suit until you start losing weight. Supplement with fat instead and estimate calories. Fat makes you feel fuller and saturated fat will increase your good cholesterol, plus depriving yourself of sugar will decrease Triglycerides and LDL. If you are pressed for time in the morning, put butter, coconut oil or heavy cream in your hot coffee. You will not feel the ill effects of starvation as badly.

skipping b-fast isn't "starving yourself", nor will it cause you to be sedentary in and of itself(that's your own doing).

Studies have actually shown that fasting may help spot reduce fat indirectly, due to increased blood flow to stubborn body fat areas (they usually lack circulation) and the "stubborn" fat receptors in those areas are also unlocked (a2 receptors I believe). That's about as close to spot reduction as you can get.

I stronglly disagree with this concept. Skipping breakfast is not a help in weight loss or it can never ever be a help for your weight loss. Just do not try to eat for whole day at your breakfast. Try being sober and eat less, just have a good meal at breakfast and try eating less at lunch and lesser in dinner. Skipping is not a good option.

My blood sugar is normally within the normal range but let me skip breakfast (for instance when I have a fasting blood test), and my blood sugar will go down to 60 and I don't normally have low blood sugar - just when I don't eat.

I eat a good sized breakfast every day - usually oatmeal, a variety of raw seeds and nuts, almond milk and a whole sectioned grapefruit - I also have a mid morning snack. I am active, work out and keep moving....I can't imagine skipping breakfast - I see no purpose in doing so.

I have dinner about 5 pm and eat breakfast at 7:30 - that is 14 1/2 hours without food - I need to eat - I'm thin and active - I need food on a regular basis.

The only time I am tempted to overeat is when I am overly hungry - I need to keep my blood sugar at an acceptable level - skipping meals doesn't work for me.

I think its a good idea to wake up the digestive system slowly -- thus a piece of fruit is an excellent way to do that. For some people, however, the way they eat the first meal of the day tends to determine how they will eat the rest of the day. If they eat a healthy breakfast, for example, they are more like to eat a healthy diet the rest of the day.

Eating sugar without protein only makes you hungrier and can cause a quick rise/fall of blood sugar. The digestive system doesn't need to "wake up" - it works beautifully and can digest a full meal in the morning just as easily as it can in the evening. The digestive system is always "awake."
