I once worked at a hospital where a patient who recently had bariatric surgery came in after going to a buffet soon after his initial discharge and gorging himself. His stomach (what remained of it) had essentially exploded and he was a mess. Spent months in the hospital and they had to write off almost a million dollars worth of care.
If you wonder why hospital charges are so high, this is a contributing factor. Selfish, irresponsible people who put themselves there in the first place.
I think a lot of the super obese people just cannot cope with eating less. They are so used to consuming massive amounts of really bad food they just cannot handle the very strict diet they need to go on. I think a lot of them are only going to go through with the surgery because of pressure from family and doctors but they know it will be almost impossible or them to adhere to it.
The super obese always have an accomplice, someone who has been manipulated to bring them all the food they desire. A sharp turn into eating a fraction of they are used to eating is just too much for some to deal with.
I am sure this kid wants get healthy, but he is not mentally ready to sacrifice for it. Unfortunately he will probably die soon.
He was in the hospital because of his obesity, he violated the rules. What's the point of going there to loose weight in order to get gastric bypass if you are going to order pizza or other fast food. Sorry but the hospital did the right thing.
I would guess the hospital has a waiting list for beds. I'd have said to him come back when you are ready to comply. Till then, we need these beds for people who are going to take the program seriously.

We have a local case going through the courts here where I suspect this is what happened. Sadly, in this case the woman died. They are suing the doctor.

Yes, its the doctors fault because this person had lost all control over their life. I guess you got to blame someone.
Perforated bowel would require more immediate attention than months after surgery. Obstruction is a relatively common post op complication.
I have a sneaking suspiscion that the lady went on a Christmas eating binge (note that the charges include she was "Misidentified" as a candidate for the surgery, plus the entire episode took place during the holiday season) which brought on the eventually fatal outcome. Of course until it goes to trial I can't say for certain.
This has nothing to do with diet and weight loss. SMH.
