Water. I might add a little almond milk after it's done and I'm about to eat it.

I never pay attention to that and have never noticed a difference in taste.

I'm allergic to cow's milk (also have Celiac.) I use goat's milk or almond milk, in place of it. Can't speak specifically to oatmeal, since I don't make it.

I use water to make oatmeal. Then I pour milk on it and eat it. Works great. I was never a fan of the texture of oatmeal cooked with milk.

I want to try an anti inflammatory diet, and want to try something different. I currently use 1/2 water and 1/2 skim milk.

Thanks.
Just water, add your "goodies" after it's cooked.

I nuke the oatmeal in a bowl with some water. Then I add rice milk or almond milk plus brown sugar and nuts. I buy the quick cooking oats (not instant) although the steel cut are supposed to be better for you.

If you are doing an anti-inflammatory diet, then you should be eliminating or minimizing almond, soy, and rice as well. You can use plain old water or coconut milk/water.

However, most anti-inflammatory diets recommend eliminating all grains (including oatmeal), at least in the beginning.
