I am overweight and on the chart “obese”
My doctor wants me to take my BP daily for month to see if my medication needs to be increased
I think the BP monitor we use at home is too small—
I read articles that people who are overweight often have higher readings because the cuffs are too small/tight
That using an appropriately sized cuff usually results in a lower—but accurate—reading

What is a good blood pressure monitor for overweight people?
And is there any guarantee that my doctor’s office is using the right size monitor
Often they use one that is mounted on the wall and that all patients use—

I almost never get a good BP reading off of an automatic cuff. They always read high.
I only trust the BPs I get at the doctor's office.

Are you overweight?
Does your doctor use a cuff that is appropriate for an overweight patient?

CVS or Walgreen's has little BP sets. It works for me. Good luck.

Not so much anymore.
Doctors use manual cuffs. No problem getting a good reading from one of those.

I think wrist blood pressure cuffs are more likely to be accurate for larger folks.

So use a manual cuff. It's not like they spend four years in medical school learning how to operate a hand pump and a stethoscope. For that matter it's not like doctors even take vitals. They use a medical assistant to do that.

I go to the doctor often enough to know that I don't have HBP.
The problem arose when they decided to do a wellness program here at work.
They used an automatic cuff, which made it look like my BP was much higher than it actually was.

That problem was solved at the end of this year.
They got rid of the actual wellness person and went to online wellness, where you get to tell them what your BP is.
