We were vegetarian with fish for 10+ years and husband has high cholesterol. We went back to meat about 3 years ago and the his levels improved in the first year so yes, some people need to eat meat.
People need to eat meat, based on one person? I don't need to eat meat. Over 50 years now.
Enjoying a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, in whole or minimally-processed form will improve your health, if you don't already enjoy this variety.
It doesn't mean you shouldn't eat any meat. It does mean you should make sure your diet includes the above.
If you're allergic to certain fruits and legumes, your variety will be limited. Fortunately you can still obtain plenty of protein (in the case of nuts/legumes) in the form of quality lean meats. By "meat" I include fish, shellfish, game, pork, poultry, beef. The good part is that the more of "everything other than meat" you eat, the less meat you need. You can still enjoy a delicious, high-quality, minimally processed diet with very limited amounts of meat, and still get all the nutrition you need without supplements, even if you have food allergies.
Treatment of animals who provide that meat is another argument altogether.
Agreed. And those arguments can happen on a board that focuses on that.
