Right don't take nutritional advice from a medical doctor. What do they know?

Cutting out everything - everything - between meals is the easiest way to keep weight down. No calorie counting, no figuring out what's in what. Most people who are overweight never stop eating. They have snacks in their purse or backpack and are never without something to eat.

However, having said all that, I agree one can't go on a McDonald's diet every day and get proper nutrition. McDonald's or equivalent is not the place to get your main meal every day.

Are you assuming they never get continuing Ed or read a medical journal after that?

I avoid HFCS anyway- I'm at elevated risk for breast cancer (family history) and the counselors at the Breast Health Clinic included it in a list of potential carcinogens to avoid.

If you wanted expert advice on a heart condition would you go to a general practitioner? All your general doctor will give you is basic guidelines.

Yes, I’m sure they have enough info to give basic recommendation but it is far different from someone that spent their entire time studying nutritional science, especially one that has a PHD. Like noted above its much like getting expert opinions from a general practitioner, they only give you guidance and then recommend you go see a cardiologist.

Some of it HAS to be all the drinks I see people constantly drinking, large drinks of sugary-yumminess.

They don't all know, but some of them sure do.

My general doctor is an expert in nutrition that teaches diet classes with a focus on weight loss.
His personal diet is Mediterranean and he's in very good shape. He obviously practices what he preaches.
My endrinoligist is a specialist that is an expert in all diabetic matters.
They both say I am to be on a low carb diet. The general doctor's has told me that I'm one of his star pupils.

My endo has seen me since I lost all the weight, but not since I began doing a large number of Les Mills classes.
My next appointment (in March) is going to be VERY interesting. She has no idea what I'm up to.

OTOH, my oncologist asks me how I do it.

Yes there are some that have specialized or have a background in nutrition.

You just need to make sure that the people you're talking to know their stuff.
Not my 300+ lb oncologist!!

Of course, if you get cancer you usually don't have to worry about weight loss. I lost 50 lbs REALLY fast.
