I ran a zillion different calculators and they all pretty much agreed that a maintenance amount of calories for me is 1200/1300.
I gained about 20 "Covid" pounds and it needs to go but how am I supposed to cut 500 calories a day (ideal for 1 lb a week) or any at all when all those sites also say nobody should exist on less than 1200 a day?
I was pretty satisfied yesterday on about 850.
Is that 1200 calorie minimum just a bunch of bull?

To know your caloric minimum may we ask your age, gender, height, weight and activity level?

Calculators are just using numbers from population averages. Don’t rely on them, simply use them for general guidance. Find what works for YOU.

Just lose slower- it takes a bit longer but safer.
Atkin’s diet if done right- with induction for 2-3 or even 4 weeks will let you lose fat faster than just limiting calories and you won’t be hungry- bored with food, perhaps - but not hungry

I am sorry for anyone that can't maintain a 2,000 calorie diet! I read about some women my age (70) who only have 1200 cal a day.
Now, I am 5'4 and 105lbs. I admit I'm a little bony, and my hips dig in the bed.
But if you are looking to lose weight, the best thing I can tell you is "The Bio diet." It's low in fat and carbs. Get your metabolism going with power walks or gym exercises. Buy a small treadmill if you can't deal with outside. (Here in Texas it's like 110 sometimes, and this transplant from Florida can't handle the summer- long story)
So my body used to always fight me to be 120lbs, then vain me had to diet. Calories always count when you are trying to lose weight. One cannot exercise without cutting calories and lose weight.
Do the Bio diet. Keep it to about 1500 cal. a day and you should lose. I lost 10 pounds in less than a month by power walking. I revved up my metabolism. The 1st trip walking around my park for a couple of days- I had to stop- the water weight alone. But I soon lost the fat!
Good luck. Don't give up and you will be so happy!
I forgot to mention- have a protein only for breakfast. Hard boiled eggs, yogurt or some peanut butter. This gives the body time to burn up fat. I'm addicted to hard boiled eggs!
I have been on the Carnivore diet for about six months now. I was tired of being fat. I have lost almost 30 pounds now, 185 to 158, and I haven't felt this good for years. My Doctor wasn't too happy when I told him that I was going to do it, and my blood work was off a bit, but the last time he just said the numbers were all good. I do supplement a few things like Desiccated liver, Magnesium, zinc and a multi vitamin. Hearing about Air Fryers and buying one made it very easy to do. I don't count Calories I eat until I'm full. I'm also satiated for a long time. I try to eat half Protein and half Fat. It seems a lot people believe fat is really bad for you, but Fat is an Essential Nutrient. I am 69 years old and it worked for this old fart anyway.
I just quit eating as much. Got to where I wasn't really hungry when I fixed my wife's supper, so I haven't eaten supper in over a week and I've lost 15 pounds so far. I know you're not to do that, but hey, it works!

I have a similar problem. My resting calories burned is about 1200 per day.. probably burn off about 1400 total.
I did Alternate Day fasting this winter and lost 40 lbs.
Why does it work? One day you eat to your TDEE (and thus are full) -- the next day you fast. This makes it SOOO MUCH EASIER... than a calorie restricted diet.
I also think it assists with you making sure you cut the calories. I find with calorie restriction you can just overshoot without knowing it. But if you don't eat at all for one day you WILL cut the calories.
