My high school daughter took Health on-line this summer so that she could take an extra art elective this fall. She had to design and implement a wellness project for the family for her nutrition unit. She decided that we would not eat any "rectangular food" for one week. That meant no foods that came out of a box or carton. Believe me - it was harder than we thought it was going to be.

We made granola for cereal and prepared our own veggies rather than using frozen, steamed ones. No frozen items like pizza, taquitos or even Lean Cuisines. Macaroni and Cheese and boxed rice mixes were out. Even tacos had to be made with spices that we mixed together rather than those that came out of a mix packet.

Overall - this was a simple project that forced us to think about the amount of processed food that we eat. It would be a fun project for younger kids too because the rule is so simple: No rectangles or squares!

If you do this for a little while, you will find that processed "food" will stop tasting like food at all. I haven't eaten any of that crap in many many years. (Nothing wrong with frozen veggies though. Not as tasty as fresh, but they are still nutritionally sound.) Why stop after a week? Make it permanent and your kids won't be overweight by the time they hit 30.

I love this diet, and I'm going to propose it to my kids!

This is the same way I eat all the time. been doing it about nine months and its not that hard after a few weeks.

I've also done away with all processed food, all fast food, and any pasta, rice, flour, white bread, anything with sugar, etc.
