My dog has a small dime size rash on his penis area. I have a cone collar thing and have been putting neosporen on for 2 days now, but I see he can still lick it somehow. It does look better then yesterday. Have no idea how he even got it, but looks red from all the licking he has done.

Any suggestions to keep him from licking it, I was thinking pepper on it, but not sure if it would soak in and burn him. Black pepper nothing harsh.
Or could I put a band aid or something like that on the area?

With the cone on he seems sad so he doesnt lick it constantly like with the cone off.

I would stay away from anything (including pepper) that might irritate it. The cone is your best bet to keep him from licking the area. But the area is so sensitive that I would not put anything on it. I would also take him to the vet to make sure that something is not wrong.

It is possible could be that your dog is manifesting a skin rash due to a food allergy. Judging by your previous posts and assuming this is the same dog that you have posted about before, the sum of the symptoms is not inconsistent with a food allergy, although it seems like a bit of a reach.

I would consider changing foods, but in the meantime you may want to see if the dog gets some relief from diaper rash ointment (it doubles as "lick discouragement").

OK, don't laugh; but, have you considered, when the dog is inside, puting a pair of thin lightwight cotton boxer shorts on him so that he cannot get to the affected area?

Ok, go ahead and laugh, but it just might slow down his licking (put them on backwards so the tail comes out the front slit).

This is brilliant! Would have never thought of it but it certainly makes good sense. I don't think I'd take the pup for a walk wearing them but it would certainly be an easy and safe approach to letting air in and letting the area heal.

Well it only took 2 days with the cone collar and multiple applications of neosporen. Today its just a tiny scab area, barely see it so in a few days there will be no sign.
Been using the same food for a year or so. Nothing has really changed food wise, but I have an active dog so it could of been a scratch or something that led to all the licking making it raw. Who knows.

Anyways ive probably saved myself $60 by not going to the vet, and the dog is fine.

Definitely recommend you don't put anything irritating, even slightly like black pepper, on your dog's schlong. Often this type of behaviour is caused by some kind of already existing irritation in the area. Urinary tract infection, allergies, yeast overgrowth..

Would you put pepper on your OWN privates? No? Well, then don't do it to your dog either.
