I'm at my wit's end...and so is Sydney I'm sure...she has this irritated patch on her outer leg and we have tried everything. Vet did all kinds of tests, nothing. Tried cortisone cream, it relieves it for a while but doesn't heal. Changed food, nothing. And it's only on the one small area. The rest of her is completely healthy, fluffy and white. This one spot is so irritated and red and raw I just feel so badly for her, and it seems the summer heat is making it worse.

I saw some products labeled 'hot spot' spray...do these heal or just soothe? ANY comments or ideas welcome!!

She is Austrailian Shepherd/Border Collie mix, if that helps.

Rita had a spot on her leg that looked like a bug or spider bite. She was on antibiotics, which seemed to take forever for it to heal but eventually it did, she kept licking it. I also got some benadryl spray and that helped with the itching and licking.

Did the vet give you anything for the spot? Changing food can take a while, I always give it at least a month.

I use CalmCoat anytime my dog has an irritated/hot spot. It prevents licking (they hate the taste), relieves irritation/itching and speeds hair growth. It is all natural--basically, lavendar, eucalyptus and castor oil. I love it!

Please do. I really hope the product works for you. I have been using it for 10+ years now on my GSD and it has always worked really well. I also like that it is all natural. In fact, she just recently had a weird patch under her elbow that she had licked raw and that looked really irritated but that has started clearing up and regrowing hair since I applied the CalmCoat. I don't know if it is b/c it prevents licking or what but it works with no scary side effects so I really don't care.
