I was watching a morning show and they had a segment on the exploding popularity in China of the Tibetan Mastiff. While they certainly are gorgeous dogs imo, I sure as heck can't see spending half a million dollars on ANY dog.

These pups are status symbols for the newly rich in China. I can just see that symbolism being transferred here and eventually pounds and shelters filling up with dumped Mastiffs, just the way they're filled with bully dogs now.

No particular point in this post, I was just blown away by someone paying that much for a dog. Must be some kinda dog-lovers over there!

That's crazy!

That said, I think that Artie's cost me "almost" that much in rejected dog food in the past three years.

My $125 shelter dog can beat up that $500,000 inbred wuss.

(Not really, when confronted, Beeze pees. But, it sounded cool.)

So the Chinese cherish the Tibetan Mastiff while they have and continue to do what to the Tibetan people? A bit ironic I would say.

This is but one of the unintended consequences of buying cheap products made in China. Soon they may too end up with puppy mills for designer dogs.

Yeah, go gettum, Beeze! You should've seen that dog arriving at a Dog Fair (apparently common in affluent areas of china) with a fleet of mercedes!

Mastiffs good dogs that much no way.
I was offered 40,000.00 for my female once ( Not a joke guy wanted her for bloodline and was started in SAR). He also wanted stud puppy same place got mine. He sent me email with his philosophy on breeding and he lost the deposit on male also. He wanted to breed to get perfection and anything that did not meet his standards would be SHOT! Nothing humanely or sold for pets or SAR work just shoot them so nobody could breed what he said would not be a superior breed (sounds like Hitler doesn't it).

Personally I can't see anyone paying more than a few hundred for a pet. We paid a grand total of $200 for our three adoptees from the shelter.
