I was just wondering that for some reason. I think I would. I hope I never have to though. If I knew that help would not get here in time, and that there was a possiblity of him being saved, I like to think I would save him.
I think it depends on how badly the house was burning. We have some friends whose house caught on fire in the middle of the night. They got their puppy out, but somehow lost control of her and terrified she ran back into the inferno. The flames were so close and so hot, with thick black smoke, that they could not run in after her. I know I would run in if the doorway was clear, but if you can't even see or breathe, there is only so much you can do.
The dogs are not alone for long periods of time but, still I will call home. I check to see if the answering machine picks up. That tells me the house is OK. Crazy, I know......
BTW, when I was married to my first husband there was a small fire one night.
At the time I had two dogs and a cat. I got them out.
Then the neighbour asked where my husband was......I didn't wake him.

The neighbor got him out.
The fire was HIS fault anyway.

Of course I would!!!
I would not even get out of the burning house without my dogs if I were there!!!
I picked a sticker at the vet's office once, and thought it was very useful. You can stick it somewhere quite visible, like the kitchen window, or even a front window if you think it will be more noticeable.
It said, in red, "in case of emergency, please save our pets"
You can write how many pets you have, what they look like, their names, and their favorite places or where they usually hide in the house.
