My friend told me about this, she witnessed the whole thing and knew Parrot and the people fostering him. Funny, the Pit Bull gets shot but the yelpy poodle gets let go. Witnesses said that the poodle initiated it, though only Parrot gets the blame in the article. Parrot was being fostered and just got his adoption approved, set to go home this week. I said it before and I'll say it again, cops suck. This is the first time I have firsthand witness accounts and all my friends that were there say it was completely uncalled for and seemed like the cop was on some power trip. Here is the article:
God, this just makes me ill. Did the officer not think about other people in the area who could have gotten hit? The poor dog sure didn't deserve this! Shame on the police dept.
Owner had control why did cop grab and toss dog? If was coming at him as claimed was more scared than anything. Toss the cop and what is he going to do come at ya!
Can't even read it. But this scenario is making me real tired. I read an article not long ago about some cops in Waldorf, Md, who managed to control a dog that a woman sicced on them without killing it. I believe the dog was a pit. Perhaps those cops can give some lessons to others. You, pass on some "best practices."
Sad. But without being there it's just a war of words with both sides having witnesses and supporters accoding to the article. I guess the thing here is to just side against the police then?

Very sad and always avoidable by just not taking one's dog to highly populated events.
Hopefully there is a sidewalk or building security video to confirm the foster's side of the story. This is one of those instances where using a Taser or baton/heavy flashlight would have seemed more prudent to use against an allegedlycharging dog given the density of people in the immediate area. The photo is too dark and the officer appears to be a leftie; but, I cannot identify a Taser on his belt, just the usual set up of flashlight, cuffs, oc spray, and retention holster/sidearm.

That's the purpose of this posting. Maybe somebody got a ticket and can't let it go?
IF the officer is found to be acting recklessly, he should be fired. I find it a little hard to believe that the officer involved, a K-9 officer, hates dogs so much that he'd lose control and shoot with abandon and without reason, as some make it seem.
How terribly, terribly sad...but no one knows the whole story. I don't believe that a K-9 officer "enjoyed" killing poor Parrot. If anything, a mistake was made - an over reaction, perhaps.
After reading Parrot's Petfinder page, it seems that the officer misread Parrot's actions. What a horrible result.
RIP little Parrot.
