I adopted a shephard/boxer mix 5 months old,a real cutie.her foster home was feeding her purina puppy chow which of course the first ingredient is corn, which is a no no, so i went to costco and bought a bag of kirkland puppy food,1st ingredient is chicken. well after we fed her that all she did was poop at least 3x a day and not normal all runny and stuff and could not hold it in at nite and pooped all over. this for 2 days.so we had some of the purina left and of course now she wont eat at all. we added the kirkland gradually also.any suggestions. i dont want to keep buying dog food and wasting it.

How long ago did you do the switch? I always give my dogs at least a month on the new food after switching. Give her a spoon full of pumpkin and see if that helps. When was her last vet visit? How long have you had her? Could be stress from being in a new home.

Definitely add pumpkin. You can easily make your own pumpkin puree or buy the canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix). With it being pumpkin season, I prefer to just puree my own - there are instructions all over the web and just freeze it in an ice cube tray and then I throw all the cubes into ziplocs for any time we have any digestive issues. But, it sounds like you may have stomach upset so feeding boiled chicken and rice until things settle down may help and get your dog to eat again. Switching is the tough part...but I hope that things get better soon!

Pumpkin is a very good source of fiber which helps in firming up their stools.

Just an FYI regarding pumpkin: Although Artie happily ate it, it didn't firm up his stool at all. The pumpkin came out the way it went in: orange and mushy. Your mileage may vary, and I hope it does, but just realize that it doesn't work for all dogs.

You used puree or the pumpkin pie filling? We have used the canned pumpkin but I prefer to make my own. It doesn't have all the preservatives. It isn't an immediate fix. It takes a few times for most dogs to get regulated. But, some dogs may have other things going on - like a food allergy for example.
