OP: It is deer season in most of the US. Just call deer processing places and see if they will let you take some of the antlers left by customers, or they may want to sell them to you.
I'm glad this thread was started. I've never given a dog deer antlers upon which to chew. Is it safe?

Antler is actually much safer than bone. It does not splinter, is 100% digestible, and is high in both calcium and phosphorous.
Shadow was a regular buzz saw the first 3 years of her life. One small piece lasted her 2 days of continuous chewing. by continuous I mean she wagged her tail and chewed until she passed out and when she woke up she wagged her tail and chewed some more. Lather, rinse, repeat.
I have been reading these posts about the antlers and I also had never heard of those for chew bones for dogs. I quit giving mine rawhides and pig skin chews because they would develop digestive problems with them. I assume from these posts that the antlers are much better for the system am I correct? I like the fact that they don't splinter I have had to dive into the mouth more than once to retrive a splintered rawhide chew. I think I will look into the antlers.

Antlers are not like rawhides. The dog can't actually get a chunk off and swallow it. They kind of shave it down with their teeth, so they last a long time. And, they are 100% natural and digestable, unlike rawhide that's usually treated with chemicals.

Thanks that seals the deal I am definately going to look into antlers
Really watch your dogs when they chew the Antlers. Only because it appears that quite a few people have experienced their dogs chipping teeth. We haven't had the problem with anything they chew but you never know. I end up ordering the Stingray Tails with a few of my friends - going in together for the cost does make it a bit better. Same goes with anything.

Good to know, I'll be picking up some at the deer processor. This motivares me to look for sheds in the Spring too!
Hmmmmm.....wonder if I can make a legal business out of this? Missouri whitetail antler dog chews?

I got one for Artie about a year ago. SURPRISE! Mr. Finicky McFinickson wasn't interested.
