Hey guys, my dog i guess got bit, I'm not 100% sure what it is, but it's the weekend so I didn't want to go spend a lot of money for off hours hospital visit for him.
do you think this is crucial. earlier it looked like a huge pimple, then it popped and tanish stuff oozed out, with a little blood.
now the swelling is down and he's got a small hole there. sorry for the placement of the injury
any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you in advance. (btw, he's about to be a father (dec 9th-ish)
That seems like an odd spot for a dog bite. Jazz had a similar looking spot a bit lower on the back of her thigh a few years ago and I noticed it seemed to have a hole in the middle so thought Foxtail and called my vets office and told them what I thought and being they know me well and know I tend to be right about such things one of the vets gave up her lunch and had me bring Jazz right in and took her into a minor surgery and yup she found a foxtail already deep into the leg. So based on my experience I would have to wonder if your dog has a foxtail? If it does that is something you want to get out ASAP. I am lucky as my vet has Sat and Sunday office hours and they cost the same as other days and in the past if they are booked up they just have me leave the dog and get to it between patients. The only time I have had to pay emergency rates was at night at the local animal ER. Being it was just Thanksgiving I will say yes I am thankful I have the wonderful animal hospital and the great vets that work there as I know not everyone has such a great place to take a sick animal too.
You need to have your vet check this out. Whether it's a bite or something such as a fox tail that got imbedded it could easily get infected and if it does the vet bills will be much higher. Not to mention that it could cost your dog unneccessary pain.
You do need to get him to the vet. It looks like either an infected anal sack or a perianal fistula. In any event he should be treated. I think you are fine waiting until Monday though if he is not in apparent distress.
well, we took him to the vet and i know the manager really well, she said it was an absessed anal gland rupture, he's getting treated now, $260 later, we'll find out.
Wow. Part of the "joy" of owning pets. Glad you took him in, and he is getting cared for. That reminds me of when I took Beau in for a teeth cleaning, that was going to cost $200...well, add additional $200 to that, he needed a tooth pulled out, and some other stuff...oh, well...

Thanks for the update. Yeah, ruptured things/infections should not wait. You would just be unlucky enough that the dog woujld develop a systemic infection, in the blood, and a couple thousand dollars later, you would be sorry you had waited! So happy he's being treated.
Glad you took him to the vet and he is on the road to recovery now. Thanks for the update.
