A dog in South Carolina saved her own life by seeking refuge in a water-filled bathtub when her owner's house went up in flames.

One-year-old Mia, a Belgian Malinois, was rescued by firefighters from the home's basement after six hours of hiding in the tub.

I always knew Mals were an intelligent breed! Glad she's ok.

Makes me feel a lot better about my GSD always seeking refuge in the bathtub, especially when there's a thunderstorm and I'm not home. I've always wondered where she learned such a habit, and think it's interesting that it is apparently quite common among dogs.

A water-filled bathtub? Did someone pour water in the tub and forget to take their bath?
Glad to hear it worked out for Mia, the Belgian Malinois, though

As the fire raged, Mia ran down the stairs to the lowest level's washroom. Firefighters doused the home with water, which poured down into the basement. The water filled the bathtub, soaking the dog and keeping her safe from the fire.

Smart dog. Our cat was rescued from our house after a fire, two died, he lived. When the firemen came in the house, he clung to them like a spider monkey, they gave him oxygen, and he was fine. He went running to them, he did not hide at all. I don't know where he was during the fire.
