My dog steals my seat too when I get up and other times if she wants my seat she'll nudge me as if to say"Move, I want to sit there!"

The Pups tag teamed the Wife again this weekend. Butch paws and pushes until the Wife capitulates and gives up her seat then Sundance just jumped up before Butch could claim his prize! I keep telling the Wife to quit sitting in their seat!

I've always assumed it's either warmth, smell, or a combination of the two. My one dog takes my seat on the couch whenever I get up, and if I get up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, she's right in my spot when I try to get back in bed. She always relinquishes the spots immediately.

My other dog never takes my seat (he doesn't spend much time on furniture, he prefers the floor) but let me tell you - he has three dog beds so he can always be close to me, but if I leave so much as a t-shirt on the floor, he will sleep on that instead.

Leia does this every time one of us get up. My answer to "why" would be warmth and scent. She'll do the same thing on our bed in the morning after she's gone outside and eaten breakfast.
