I feed my dog Timberwolf Organics Ocean Blue formula. I buy a 16.5 bag for $29.49. I like it for my Boston terrier since it is grain free and the first four ingredients are white fish meal, salmon, potatoes, and salmon oil. The kibble is a little small for my oinker so I had to buy a bowl to slow him down. And it smells delicious!
Due to what China is putting into our dog food and now distrusting most brands I went to Bil-Jac products. The dry product is called Select, and you can get it at Pet Co. I couldn't find it at my Pet Co so I called Bil-Jac and they said that some pet companies keep it in the back so you have to ask for it. I finally found it at a veterinary office and have yet to ask Pet Co again. but the product is made in the U.S. and if you type in Bil-Jac you will find their website.
All the critters in the household get Solid Gold. My Standard used to get the Millenium, but it's such high protein that when we added another (boundless energy) dog to the household, we wanted to decrease. We now feed Solid Gold Holistique dry, with some Merick canned food mixed in (although that's tough to come by these days). The Poodle's been on SG for 7 years and none of the typical problems that plague Poodle's have troubled her (e.g., ear infections, skin, etc.).
I also feed my cats dry SG, and one gets canned SG tuna as well (now that's really hard to come by these days!). We just moved from Boston to a very rural area of North Carolina, and I was *thrilled* to find several pet supply stores that carry natural, healthy, quality foods. As folks have already noted, what you feed makes all the difference in the world, and the commercial grade dog foods like Iam's or Science Diet (now owned by Purina) just don't cut it--kinda like eating at McDonalds daily.
I feed Cali Natural, chicken rice. It's a quality dog food, I did a lot of research and this was the first one I tried and it seems to work well, so I stayed with it.
Pit Bull Mommie - you do know some of the DVP formulas were on the recall? I don't know if they have ceased doing business with the companies that were involved or not.
Raw. It's the only way to go....for me!~
Yeah, the foods with venison were recalled a while back, but as far as I know everything is fine now. Then not too long ago they recalled all of the canned foods because of one suspected case of botulism in their people canned food. Besides that, there hasn't been anything else I have heard about and we don't feed ours the food with venison or the canned food.
Like Jessaka, I also feed my dogs Bil-Jac. They are healthy, very shiny coats, & seem to really like the taste. ( I've eaten a little myself, it's not bad at all) For a while I tried home prepared dog food which they loved, however they all gained too much weight. I think I just need to do some more studying of nutrition before I pursue homemade food. Meanwhile, they are thriving on Bil-Jac.
