I should have asked before I bought it but I forgot that city-data has a pet section!

So I just moved from Nashville to Boston with my 3 dogs...2 basenji mixes and a beauceron. In Nashville I had a decent sized back yard where they could run around and I only walked them on the weekends for fun. However here in Boston I was not able to find a place with a private backyard so I am walking them every day. 2 long walks for exercise and a couple bathroom break walks. However since they really haven't been trained to walk and there are so many distractions here, they pull like crazy and it makes the walk a miserable experience. I have tried taking them out individually for a little training but it's hard to separate them and it takes so long.

So, today I ordered the Freedom No Pull Dog Harness after much web research and video review. No Pull Training Harness - Patented Design - Wiggles Wags & Whiskers (http://www.wiggleswagswhiskers.com/newsite/freedom-no-pull-harness.htm - broken link)

Has anyone ever used this harness or something similar? I'd love to hear any reviews and any other tips you guys might have for training older dogs to walk.

We have one and it is wonderful. Our 80lb lab no longer pulls. We had to send it off to get resized (his girth was one size, his front chest was another) but we are anxiously waiting for its return. I'd highly recommend it. It works great with the double ended leash.

I've thought about getting one of these for my 80lb lab. He doesn't go crazy pulling or anything, but if he sees something he wants, (i.e. a tree to pee on, cat, squirrel, etc) he goes for it full speed. I'm about 120lbs so I'll be investing into these to replace the choke collar I have now, i've heard good things. -- Keep us posted on how it goes!

I will definitely post a review once it comes in. Unfortunately they take 2 weeks to arrive. Great to hear some positive feedback...I did a fair amount of searching and only found positive reviews.

The only one that works for our Boxer is the Gentle Leader

http://www.tarasdogtraining.com/blog/gental_leader2.jpg

Out Boxer is about 80Lbs and he pulls like crazy. He is two years old and been threw training but it doesn't work. He has a ton of upper body strength and when he digs his front paws in and kicks off there is no stopping him.

with the gentle leader though I can (and do) walk him with a cup of coffee in the morning with no spills.
The difference is night and day. It kinda freaks people out because they think he is dangerous because he is huge and muzzled, but I just inform them of what it is.

It was originally recommended by our vet, and I thought she was just wanting us to buy one of her sponsored product, but it works sooooo well.

Usually harnesses are made for pulling it is their design. To be honest, I don't know if this would work on my guys. I know it says it constricts the chest to "discourage" pulling...however, it will depend on the training disc that they provide and what drives your dogs.

I have two Am Bulldogs. One 70 lbs and one 90lbs. I have used the halti and gentle leader with great success... even when the 90 pounder wants that squirrel. (To him it is the real deal, he knows what it is to chase and kill vermin.)

The design in the Sporn non-pull harness (goes under the armpits with Sherpa covers for no chaffing) has worked well for my 90 pounder. It pulls in an upward motion to stop the pulling.

I realize you have smaller dogs, if you can make it by a PetsMart or Petco, you could pick up a halti or gentle leader until your harness comes. They (PetsMart also sells the Sporn harness, which are guaranteed for life. Anyway, you can own all three product today, if you so choose.

You will notice an immediate change in their walking habits. My boys walk by my side and can be controlled under the most "crazy" conditions. (Cats, squirrels, birds, dogs barking, cars passing etc.,) They (Halti's and Gentle leader's are head halter's) the body follows the head.

Hope this helps...

I'd be curious to know if this one works.

None of the harnesses that clipped in the back worked with Artie, not even for a minute.

The ones that clip in the front worked... for a couple of days. Then Artie stopped caring or feeling the discomfort and he was back to his usual pulling tricks.

You probably know but the harness in question clips into both front and back.

Yeah, I noticed that. However, knowing that neither worked for Artie, I was pretty sure that both at the same time wouldn't faze him either. He's really obnoxious.

Yet, somehow, I'm still curious about this one. (I have, uh, approximately five different kinds of harnesses in a closet here. Sigh...)
