We all know the bond between dogs and their owners can be extremely strong. But imagine the bond between a soldier and her dog through years of service and war. I surely hope this brave marine can adopt her ailing dog before it is too late.
Good question. I know the military or any govt bureau is incredible slow but perhaps contacting the rep from her district or where the dog is? i don't know. It is just such a sad state for them both to be in.
I see on Facebook that many people have posted this article from many sources on Puppy Rescue Mission. I have also contacted the Afghan Stray Animals League (shelter in Kabul, office in Virginia) as one of the things they try to do is bring soldiers' animals to the U.S., although I think it is usually a "stray", not a service dog. All the more reason the U.S. should bring the dog back, having served.
A former Marine K-9 handler is attempting to adopt her former K-9 partner. The dog is 10yrs old and is no longer able to perform his duties.
The former Marine's efforts to save the dog are being hindered by bureaucratic red tape and he (the K-9) is in danger of being put down prior to adoption. The dog and the former Marine have both more than earned their right to live out their lives together and in peace.
I'm appealing to folks here to take the time to email or write their elected representatives and request they become involved in the efforts to save the dog.
Here's a link to the original story which can be forwarded to representatives along with a request to assist in Megan's efforts to adopt her former partner; Marine Seeks to Adopt Military Dog (http://www.myfoxny.com/dpp/news/marine-seeks-to-adopt-military-dog-20120309 - broken link)
This has been posted more than once (and I posted it before seeing how many others did). It was on national news so I think a lot of attention will be paid. Thanks for posting it again.
